What It Does NOT Check
No Trademark Verification
MerchMuse does not perform trademark database lookups. It cannot tell you whether a phrase, brand name, or design element infringes on an existing trademark. This is beyond the scope of any listing generation tool.
Always verify trademarks independently via the USPTO TESS database before submitting any listing to Amazon.
Search USPTO TESSOther limitations to be aware of:
- Amazon's content policy may change at any time — no tool can guarantee real-time parity with their latest rules.
- The checker does not evaluate design images for copyright or IP issues — only the text content of listings.
- Some edge-case rejections (e.g., culturally sensitive content) require human judgment beyond automated checks.
Compliance Checker Questions
Does MerchMuse check trademarks?
No. MerchMuse does not perform trademark database lookups or trademark infringement analysis. It checks against known banned phrases from Amazon's content policy, but cannot verify whether a term is trademarked. Always verify trademarks independently using USPTO TESS (tess2.uspto.gov) before submitting your listings.
What banned phrases are detected?
MerchMuse checks for 15+ known banned terms from Amazon's Merch content policy, including phrases like "best seller," "Amazon's choice," "#1," "guaranteed," and other promotional or misleading claims. The list is updated as Amazon's policies change.
Can I add custom banned words?
Not currently. The compliance checker uses a built-in list of known banned phrases based on Amazon's content policy. Custom banned word lists are on our roadmap for a future release.
Is compliance checking 100% guaranteed?
No. MerchMuse helps reduce the risk of common rejection reasons, but no automated tool can guarantee 100% compliance with Amazon's policies. Amazon's review process may flag issues beyond what any tool can check. Always review your listings before submission.
